Asterisk is an open source Private Branch Exchange (PBX or “phone system”). A PBX provides your business with the ability to connect IP-based handsets for extension-based dialing. Asterisk also enables Interactive Voice Response (IVR or “auto attendant”) menus for your customers, a company directory, VoIP or standard trunking to the PSTN and many more features.
